Login Problem

Just downloaded latest version. Installation was a dream, except at the end received error message something like
mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result ... line 51

Having set my user name and password, it is impossible to do the next operation which is to log in.

Have noticed one or two other posts with same problem.

  • Please install the nightly build.
  • I have just had the log in problem again (had it twice before). I have not updated the nightly build since 2008-05-01, last time I logged in everything was OK, Went to log in to admin just now for the first time in a few days (having not changed anything since my last log in) and it kept saying my username/password was wrong, tried many times no luck, tried a reset, still no luck.

Downloaded last nights build 2008-05-09, carefully deleted everything except albums and cache, made copies of my config and theme. Installed last nights build 2008-05-09, tries to update but asks for username & password but will not accept them.

I solved this as last time: Using phpMyAdmin on my web server I go to the zenphoto database, choose the zp_administrators table I check the fields id, user. password, name, email, rights and select empty, I then go to my zenphoto gallery again, the upgrade page appears, but no username/password prompt this time, I select go and everything works as normal, I just have to setup my master user/password again.

This is the third time this has happened on my on-line gallery, the fix would be a real pain if I had more than one user, as I would have to enter them all again.

I really think there is some intermittent issue here, I know it was suggested before that this was due a update not being applied correctly, but this time I had not done anything, just hadn't logged in for a few days.

For what it is worth I have not had this problem on my local zenphoto setup using the MAMP environment on Apple Mac.

    Thanks
  • The problem you are describing is not the upgrade one. With that one, once the fix has been made it sticks.

Once set, zenphoto does not change the database entries unless you save on the admin information page. Please make a note of the values of the various fields now that things are working. If the problem happens again, let us know what the differences (if any) in these values are.

What happended when you tried the password reset? Did ou get an email with at link? What happened when you clicked on the link?
  • I'll make a note of the field values. When I tried the password reset I got the email with the link, which took me to admin, I entered my new password and saved, then the admin log in page, I entered my new password which it wouldn't accept, I tried my old password which it wouldn't accept!

I'll let you know if it happens again.

    Thanks
  • I am having the same login problem as stevenew. Any thoughts please?
  • Follow the same procedure as stevenew. Let us know what is being changed.
  • I have an automated installation by the Dreamhost hosting guys. I reset the password, but still get the login error.
  • @markhawkins, to use the fix I used you need direct access to the mysql database that your zenphoto gallery uses, I don't know Dreamhost but if its a automated install I guess you might not have access to it. Unless the zenphoto developers have any ideas, you might have to try setting up a fresh install manually by creating your own mysql database (if Dreamhost allow you to do this) and installing zenphoto from the download from the zenphoto web site, its pretty easy really. Perhaps someone else who hosts with Dreamhost could help you on this?
