Advice on updating from Zenphoto 1.1.3? - spike - 2012-09-23

hi,

It's been a while since I had time to tinker with my Zenphoto installation - like years - and I logged into my .htaccess password protected site today and found at least one deprecated function error and multiple warnings. See following at end of this post.

I'm thinking the best thing to do is create a new MYSQL database and do an installation fresh. Having not followed Zenphoto news, I wonder if the password protection issue has ever been resolved and/or if I can cnotinue using .htaccess to limit the people I allow to view my photos (i.e. friends and family).

Any other advice you all can offer will be great.

Thank you!

Well, 1.1.3 is pretty ancient, we cannot help with that anymore. You might be able to directly upgrade but we did not test it. You find all info about installing, upgrading and current server requirements here:
http://www.zenphoto.org/news/installation-and-upgrading

Not sure what password issue you refer to. Zenphoto has a mutli user right management system. Best you do some reading on the user guide.

Thanks, Acrylian.

I'll read up on a new installation and try that.

The password issue I am recalling was that the password only protected the album and if someone could guess the url for the picture there was no protection and the picture could be viewed directly by typing the url.

Don't remember that bug, if an album is protected that is inherited by all child items, image or albums.

Maybe you are confusing it with the unpublished status, then this is indeed possible and not a bug.

I had an older version and going straight to a new version did NOT work. I had to "upgrade" twice. First to 1.28 then to the newest version. Hope that helps.

Just to add: I did indeed successfully upgrade a local install from, I think, 1.0.8.2 but that was a very small and simple used one without much data. So upgrading in some steps is recommended plus backups. If it is an important live site I would create a 2nd install with a copy to test.
