I have been trying to install ZenPhoto on my client's web site for the last 3 hours! I can't get past the blank screen after I enter the MySQL details.

The installation instructions are simple to follow but don't tell you what to do if you encounter a problem or list common problems and their solutions.

Here's what I know:
I have searched this forum for over an hour and cannot find a clear answer to my problem
I have used ZenPhoto gallery AND installed successfully on other sites on the same web hosting server with no issues
I have my database information correct
Apache version 1.3.41
PHP version 5.2.10
MySQL version 5.0.90-community
cPanel Pro 1.0 (RC1)
Linux Server

I need a clear answer of steps 1-2-3 to get this working ASAP. Based on my previous experience with ZenPhoto and how easy it was to install, I promised it would be done in about a day and now it's becoming a headache.

I need someone to help me through this and possibly even walk me through the steps.

I would also like to know if there is a certain way files should be uploaded via FTP - auto-detect, binary or ASCII??

Additional, detailed installation instructions would be great!

Unfortunately, there are no perfect instructions for installing on every server. Zenphoto does try to simplify it as much as possible; it should be as simple as running setup.php, fixing any errors, and following through the script. Sometimes there are errors, and those errors are usually related to the server, so it's nearly impossible to give troubleshooting to every single possible problem a user might encounter.

In your case, you're encountering a blank page. Chances are that you will find an error in your server's error logs. You should locate those logs and relay the error to us; otherwise, we would only be guessing at what the problem could be.

Also, in most cases, decent FTP clients will do fine with auto-detect. However, if you want to be sure, all Zenphoto's files are ASCII-based (without looking at SVN, I'm 99% sure there are no pre-compiled binaries), so you should be able to upload as ASCII if necessary.

Also, what version of Zenphoto are you trying to install?

All zenphoto files are text-UTF8 character set as kagutsuchi has mentioned.
