somehow my zenphoto has ended up set to locale - zh_CN.UTF8
and set to UTF7
i can't read anything as its all chinese, so i do i revert back to english?

Change the language option on the backend. By default it is set to use the http accept language automatically. This means your browser is somehow requesting this. So check your browser settings for hte preferred language as well.
