In regards to having a single-folder blog vs. get_recent() function
What if I want to display the most recent upload and yet be able to categorize images for archive purposes?
If everything is in a single folder it would be hard to browse through all of them if the total starts reaching higher numbers.
A get_recent() function would hold a variable for the most recent upload and could be inserted into the index page.
Just a thought...

True. I'll probably make such a function just for letting you get the most recent n images to display on another page (eg, blog sidebar) or something.
So it'll be there anyway. Also, I'll eventually be adding tags to categorize photos alongside their physical directory location, so that'll solve your single-folder problem.
