By doing what is requested. Why that appears is explained on the installation page on our site.

I'm struggling with this too.
I loaded the setup directory to /zp-core/ on my server, and added the setup.php to the directory /zp-core yet when I go to my gallery page I get an error message and a suggestion that the server may be down.
Either the instructions are not clear and I have done something wrong or I have a different problem.

Yes I took the files from the same version as is currently running.

So did your re-run setup after uploading? What error do you get? What do the error logs say?

Will using the latest version 1.4.4.1b instead cause any problems?

I think I don't understand the question?

I never got an answer as to how to re-install this. "Run setup after uploading" means nothing to me.

I'm having this problem and I've tried a whole bunch of things and it just keeps re-appearing. The only errors detected when I run setup are:

Zenphoto core files [Some files are missing or seem wrong]
Warning!

Perhaps there was a problem with the upload. You should check the following files:
zp-core/setup/index.php
zp-core/setup/setup-functions.php
zp-core/setup/setup-option-defaults.php
zp-core/setup/setup-primitive.php
zp-core/setup/setup-sqlform.php
zp-core/setup/setup_permissions_changer.php
zp-core/setup/setup_pluginOptions.php
zp-core/setup/setup_set-mod_rewrite.php
zp-core/setup/setup_themeOptions.php

Zenphoto core folders [Some unknown files were found]
Warning!

You should remove the following files:
zp-core/setup/error_log

I tried solving it by upgrading to the latest version (I'm still at 1.4.42) but that broke everything. When not logged in the site looks and functions fine.

Does anyone have any ideas? Also, is there any reason I shouldn't be able to upgrade to the latest version from 1.4.4.2?

Just found this in my setup error log:

[06-Mar-2014 20:57:39 UTC] PHP Fatal error: MySQLi Error: ( SHOW FULL COLUMNS FROM [prefix]admintoobject ) failed. MySQLi returned the error Table 'database_zp._admintoobject' doesn't exist in /home/database/public_html/zp-core/functions-db-MySQLi.php on line 69

As the message says it is a warning. It is explained here:
http://www.zenphoto.org/news/installation-and-upgrading#re-running-and-re-uploading-setup-files

Note that on the current version it is not necessary to re-upload the files anymore.

You should be able to upgrade from 1.4.4 to 1.4.5 generally. Of course third party plugins or themes may not be compatible, also if you made your own theme you might need to update it in some places. See the 1.4.5 release post.

"Everything broke" is nothing we are able to help with. We really would need more info like errors from the logs etc. Please see here how to report bugs the best way so we can more easily help: http://www.zenphoto.org/news/general-contributor-guidelines#reporting-bugs

@acrylian

Yeah, sorry about the "everything broke" but I meant that as an aside and not a request for assistance on that particular issue. I am more concerned about the setup issue. I was hoping to solve that before attempting to upgrade again. But I suppose a successful upgrade might solve the problem, as well.

Thanks for the help.

Sure, no problem, just tried to point out that that doesn't get you too far regarding help and we often get such reports :-)

Regarding the setup files. All you need to do is to re-upload them from the original package and re-run setup (re-uploading is not necessary on the current versions anymore). If you don't have that download package anymore we have an older versions archive on our site (our GitHub page has also one but the site's one has even older versions).
