I'm trying to upgrade from 1.4.2.4 t0 1.4.6 and all I get on the setup page is a blank page with this message :
Fatal error: Call to undefined function zp_error() in /home/xxx/public_html/zp-core/functions-config.php on line 19

Here is a the error.log :

That sounds like a permission error actually. Is the file really there in case the upload broke? Generally it is recommende to update in 1.4.x steps although it generally should probably work.

the file has been uploaded there and is not corrputed.
You mean that I should first upgrade to 1.4.3 then 1.4.4 etc ?

It will take years !

I know but properly tested is generally only the direct upgrade from the version before.

The error either means the file is not there or it cannot be accessed. No other idea right now if that isn't it.

Did you handle this problem this way ? I have the same problem after unsuccesful upgrade from 1.4.3 to 1.4.6 (current).

Beside I have no idea where I can download all archives between 1.4.3 and 1.4.6 .

There is nothing special for permissions - 0644 for files / 0755 for most folders, except 0600 for some files in zp-data.

I can't find nothing special in logs. Error log for subdomain in empty, normal logs only robot access. Logs in /zp-data:
debug.log - last entry from 2013,
security.log - last log from succesfull admin login before upgrade,
setup.log - records only results 1.4.3 upgrade.

Try deleting the config file in zp-data (save your credentials before). The error in that place is only related to a corrupt config file. Why the fatal error I cannot answer without investigation.
