Hi Folks-

We've had the EXIFDescription field overwrite the title field on a few occasions, namely upgrades & migrations. The OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA per the github #446 issue is primarily the culprit. The gallery consists of 13000+ images in 150 galleries, fortunately only about 500 have the dreaded Olympus metadata.

The question is, can I delete the data in the EXIFDescription field to prevent this from happening again? The site has been going strong for 7 years & luckily is only happened a few time but it's always a time drain doing the rework in phpmyadmin.

Also, is there a reference correlating the relationship between the Options > Images > Metadata in the admin area & the actual table fields?

If something overrode the title field it is by the meta data refresh, not the database field. That is taking the meta data from the images again. That happens either manually or on new images. That stores the data in the database and will override the normal image title. Unless the processing of fields is disabled via the options. but that should not happen on updates.

EXIFdescription should be the option "image title".

Thanks for the reply, acrylian. I looked at the metadata options and I had the image title disabled. I seem to remember doing that (after researching it) the last time this happened. I understand that it only applies to new uploads & is not retroactive. I assume I can delete all the EXIFDescription data I please and it won't affect the frontend. The gallery is for sharing images of vintage baseball gloves, not photography prowess per se.

This instance of the title glitch was due to a migration to a new server, both old & new servers are cPanel / Centos. We backed up entire site including databases & logs and restored to the new server. Pretty standard in the cPanel world.

We are seeing other issues now like some thumbnails being displayed in place of full size images and some full size images rotated 90° CW. I'll address those in separate posts.

So, delete away on the EXIFDescription fields?
