It would be waste to cover it. Even if Imagick may process it - which depends on its configuration - what benefit does it provide if no one can see it? It would have to be converted to a webformat like jpeg on resizing so you can just use that in the first place already.
You can add "basic" support for the files itself using the anyfile plugin already but it will not behave like an "image":
