I just uploaded 95 images to an album and the default sort order isn't clear to me but it isn't by filename. I'd really like to avoid sorting manually. Is there any way to configure ZP to sort by filename automatically?

Yes there is a way to do that. 1) go into your admin 2)click the edit tab 3) go to the album in question 4) set the "sort by" drop down to filename

I am still hoping one day sorting can be based on the EXIF date the picture was taken or even an upload date.

On the other hand, sorting doesn't work as I would expect it to. For example, I've got a folder full of images whose filenames and titles all begin with a two digit number (00-filename, 01-filename, 02-filename, etc.). In fact, the filename and title is identical for each image. When I sort by Filename the images are sorted like this: (00, 07, 08, 09 ... 26, 00, 01, 02, 03, ... 25)

And if I sort by Title I get what looks like a random order (15, 17, 18, 15, 11, 13, etc.)

I cannot reproduce your problem. Would you please look at the admin page and see if the images there are in the correct order?

I've checked on two computers and the album is definitely not sorting by filename -- in the admin interface or public gallery. I guess I'll reduce the amount of photos and re-upload them. It seems like it's displaying them in the order I uploaded them rather than alphanumerically.

What version of ZenPhoto are you using?

Weirdness... I just emptied the folder and re-uploaded the images a few at a time. When I only had about a dozen images they were sorting correctly but then I added the rest it got out of whack.

I'm using 1.0.8. I will download the community build later and let you know how it goes.

the community build will definitely help you. i just upgraded my company's employee picture gallery recently from 1.0.7 to the community build, and it fixed the exact same sorting issue you have experienced.

Is it possible to have zenphoto default to sorting all images, subalbums, and albums by filename without having to go into admin, choose sort by filename, and click save for every album and subalbum?

Suppose you upload via FTP a bunch of albums and subalbums, each containing many images. Currently, the albums, subalbums, and images appear to be sorted by upload date instead of filename. One must go into every album and subalbum and click save to make zenphoto sort by filename. (It seems that images are displayed sorted by filename, but you'll notice that sometimes the thumbnail for an album/subalbum is not generated from the first image if you uploaded some other image first.)

If you install the nightly build, You can set default sorting options in admin. Then all new albums will default to what you have chosen. For any albums you already have, you will have to set the options via the admin edit page.
