Hi,

I've just installed Zenphoto in my Dreamhost account and I've noticied that some images just don't get cached. First I thought it was size related since only images larger than 2.5Mb doesn't got created. But then I've found some larger images that were created.

Then I've thought it was the filename, only 1,2 ou 3 characters short for the defective images, but again... some do and some don't. The only other variable I haven't tested is that the imaged not working was taken with a Nikon camera and the other don't.

I don't know how to fix it, although I know a little bit of PHP. So I think it was a better idea to ask for help :-)

Another point to notice is that I'm actually using symbolic links inside my albums folder that points to my rsynced pictures folders backup.

Here is the link to my zenphoto gallery

Actually the folder that doesn't work is this one:

Most likely you need to upload smaller images because your server memory is too limited to process 2.5MB images. Please take a look here (at the bottom): http://www.zenphoto.org/2007/12/troubleshooting-zenphoto/

Yes, but I have images with 4.0MB working normally.

Dreamhost is vicious with the memory limits. I believe they also kill off processes that are taking too much CPU or resources at random. This is what you get for cheapo unreliable shared hosting.

Here's the output of your image:

http://www.ceccarelli.ind.br/photo/Fotos_2007/2007.10.12%20-%20Casamento/Final/image/thumb/1.jpg

Note the error message - memory limit exceeded. It doesn't matter if other images work, because it's not the JPEG file size that matters, but the Bitmapped internally stored image, which can vary based on many factors. But, you can be assured, if images are not caching it's very likely hitting the memory limit.

Just make your images smaller, or get a new host who's less restrictive. Don't bother asking Dreamhost for more memory, they'll likely close your account for abusing resources.
