Edit Album: Thumbnail selection

Album 1 contains 1 image. Within Album1 is SubAlbum1 containing 130 images. I expected to only have the ONE image available as option for Album 1, however I have the one PLUS 4 randon images from Subalbum1. Is this suppose to happen?
