Installing in my sub domain is not working and I'm getting frustrated. If I move all of the files into the main domain and then install, does it have to affect the main domain?

I don't want Zenphoto on the main domain. I want it only on the subdomain.

why not create a folder www.yourdomain.com/photos/ and install it there..?

Why are you having issues with your subdomain..?
