Hello everyone. I searched the forum but did not find an answer.
I want to share photos with my friends AND don't want to set a password.

Is there a way for me to set some restriction , to disallow photo's downloading?
I mean: only view possible, not "save as" option available?

Sorry for my bad english, i hope you can understand my question
Regards
Marco

You can prevent viewing/downloading the full sized image via the image configuration options. If you show an image on a WEB site there is absolutely no way to prevent someone form obtaining a copy of that image. (If you don't believe me, look in your browser cache files. You will find there every image you have viewed recently.)

Yes but 99% of my friends doesn't know how to look in the cache.
So is there a way to restrict the access, the way i wanted?

Look at the options.

if you use, for example photoshop, or other image editing software you can add a text over the image such as your name or a copyright symbol: ©
this effectively marks the image as YOURS and deters from others trying to use them.
alternativly take the easy route and look in the options of the admin in zenphoto!

Scripts like this are easily overridden by disableing JavaScript. But if you need that I am sure you will find tons of examples on the net.

Generally the only way to really protect images on the net is not to have images on the net.

Yes, and it was before: Don't put images on the net. The way browsers or the net work has not changed in the last three years...

I understand that expert users can find a way to download images looking into cache or whatever.
I only need a feature to prevent normal users to do "save as"
Can you please confirm nothing has ever been implemented in 3 years for this, so i'm the only one in the world asking? :-)

Nothing has been implemented for the above given reasons. If you really need it you find lots of info on the net about that (and the same reasons why it is actually useless).

Of course, modify your theme to your requirements. For the basics see the theming tutorial.

You can also set the full image protection to "No Access"

For the casual user, turn off (under Options –> Image) functions such as : Disable hotlinking and Cache full image.
Set the view to "Protected View".

It still allows one to see – and therefore download – the format you have in the Image View page and in the slideshow, which means people have a good photo for their website, but not for printed documents. This is where watermarking helps.

If you choose one of the themes that displays photos using Flash, photos are even harder to download, but as far as I am concerned, user experience is also much less interesting (more painful navigation, non-standard controls, and I believe not compatible with ipad/iphone).

By the way, even my 80-year-old mother knows that alt-PrintScreen saves a screenshot to the clipboard, ready to be pasted in Word.
