Question, (and pardon my ignorance) is there a simple way to make it so that only registered users can view albums without the need of password protecting every album?

How do you password protect the gallery?

Alright better question, how do I password protect the gallery but still allow someone to register or use the contact form. If I password protect the gallery the EU is directed to a login page, with no other options.

You will need the nightly build of Zenphoto. With this build there is a gallery option as to which pages are not to be password protected.

Do I need to do a clean install of the nightly build or can my site be upgraded? And if so how do I upgrade to the nightly build?

It would probably be best to do a clean install as some parts of zenphoto have been restructured between 1.2.6 and the nightly builds.

You can follow the normal install instructions. The most important would be to delete the zenphoto files from the previous release before upgrading.
