Hi all,

Very nice work on zenphoto thus far!

I am trying to generate a dynamic album with all of my photos (to make a slideshow on a digital picture frame type thing). That's about 3000 photos. I have shared hosting on Dreamhost, and I'm pretty sure the dynamic album is crashing when it hits DH's pre-set cputime limits. It does work with fewer images.

Are there any workarounds, like maybe generating the album on another computer and adding it to the database?

Are there any easier ways of doing random photo slideshows?

I thought it might also be neat to have a random album feature - some URL that plays a slideshow from a particular album, and then picks another one when that slideshow completes. If that doesn't sound enormously difficult to you, I'll try and undertake implementing that. I know the random image, and random image from a particular album functions, but this would be a random album (and all the images from that album).

Kind of depends on what is actually causing the problem. Dynamic albums are basically "canned" searches. The slideshow needs to create a list of all the images of the show. It may be that process simply takes too long on your server. It may also be that the images have not all been cached yet and that the slideshow listing is causing that to happen. If so, then the problem will go away once the caching has completed.

Caching sounds pretty accurate. It's only been up for a few hours, and that's probably not enough to chew through all of these.

I'll post back if I get it to work.

Thanks!
