1) When i try to Move a folder, the move button is not visible (only cancel). I checked the source and it's not even being generated.
2) If i try to move the following folder 2009-01-20-My-Event into a 2009 folder within the albums root, it won't let me. I suspect this is because the folder name starts with 2009, so it is greying out the move as an option. Not sure if this is even something that is fixable..

Sorry, but I perhaps am not understanding. First you say that the move button is not visible. But then you say you can try to move an album but the desired destination is grayed out. So, which is it?
As for the second item. I setup exactly what you describe, a folder named `2009-01-20-My-Event` and a global album named `2009`. I had no problem at all moving `2009-01-20-My-Event` into `2009`
