would it be possible to add tags to a picture by typing them in a field at the [edit album->image menu] instead of first creating tags in the tags menu and then selecting them in the image edit menu?

making up and adding tags would be so much easier if you actually see the image you want to tag...

If you like adding tags to an image while viewing it you really should try something like Adobe Bridge (I am sure there are other applications) that are much more convenient for tagging images.

Adding tags on these pages causes a browser refresh. If you do not mind that, just open the tags tab in a different browser tab/window. Add the tags there you want, refresh your image page and check the newly presented tags.

Well, it would surely be possible using jQuery to do that without a page reload (as other systems like Wordpress do it this way). But we have no plans for that.

Alternatively you can do this sort of right now. Just enable frontend editing and then you can add tags directly on your site like this. Remember to turn frontend editing off later as it creates possible security holes to your site.

Yes. Tags and other relevant metadata. This is really the best way to manage image metadata since it stays with the image no matter what might happen to the database.
