Hi, is it possible to display or somehow extract a url that points directly to an image id rather than a name, and also without the album name in the url so that the image is displayed in whatever album it happens to be in? I'm trying to avoid the problem of linking to my images from somewhere else or giving someone a url but then I move the image to a different album and the link fails?

Thanks
Bryan

No, as the name and the album name in the url is what identifies an image in Zenphoto internally. Zenphoto is file system based regarding images and albums. If you move an image to another album or rename the image file (but filename and title are independent) it is a different, new image.

Oh dear, that's a bit of a problem. I would have thought that an uploaded image would have a unique id and the db would know what album it was in! Nevermind, maybe something for a future release

Thanks

No, sorry, not even for a future release as this is simple not the way Zenphoto works. You can have several images of the same name in different albums as you can have subalbums with the same name within different albums. As said file system based.

There is a way to move images on the backend that I think does not change the id. And the coming 1.4.1 release will feature a short url that is at least partly based on the id (my collegue did it so I am not sure how "permanent" in your sense that is then.)

The tinyURL is "permanant" (so long as the image is not deleted) and independent of if you move the image.

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean, could you expand a little please.

Thanks

He said the tinyURL is permanent even if you move an image (not via FTP this means as that bypasses the database). The normal url is not as I explained already.

I'm not being awkward but you have basicly repeated sbillards post and therefore I am none the wiser.

What do you mean by tinyURL, is that anything to do with tinyURL.com? If so what has it to so with zenphoto/page and how do I use it?

Please 'expand a little'.

Thanks

Bryan

Sorry, I thought it was mentioned above. The "tinyURL" is a feature of the 1.4.1 release (introduced actually for usage with the coming tweet plugin - look at our Twitter account) scheduled June 11 and can be previewed in the trunk nightly already.

Ah yes, you did mention a short url feature in 1.4.1, I didn't know that was the same thing.

Great, I'll update and check it out.

Thanks
Bryan
