Getting error 500 (Internal Server Error) again and again

Hello,

I'm trying out Zenphoto and got it installed on my web hoster: http://strato.de.

The installation generally worked OK even if not so smooth as with some other galleries. The only critical problem which remained for now is that I'm getting error 500 (Internal Server Error) when loading various admin pages. There is no pattern when it happens, just randomly. It looks like a timeout or a memory problem.

Any suggestions what to do to fix this?

Did you install via a 1-click-install helper? Then it might have done something wrong. We don't recommend those. http://www.zenphoto.org/news/installation-and-upgrading

ZP runs fine on that host generally.
    - Check if the `.htaccess` file is in place. If not re-run setup to create it (see link above).
    - Also check your php server error logs for other errors as it might be file permissions. Some guide: http://www.zenphoto.org/news/general-contributor-guidelines#reporting-bugs
  • Thanks for a quick reply! No, I've installed from the full package. There were no file permissions warnings that some permissions were missing, rather that they are too open. I will check the PHP logs - need to find out how to get there first with my hoster. Here is the setup log (before the list of installed themes and plugins):

    Zenphoto Setup v1.4.5.9[12ad1f92fa] clone: Tue, 22 Apr 2014 18:25:46 +0200
Warn: zp-data security [is compromised] Zenphoto suggests you make the sensitive files in the zp-data folder accessable by owner only (permissions = 0600). The file permissions for debug.log are 0640 which may allow unauthorized access.
Warn: PHP Sessions [problems with save_save_path]. The configured PHP session path could not be used. Zenphoto has set the path to the zp-data folder.
    Warn: The Zenphoto filesystem character define is ISO‑8859‑1 [no test performed] Setup did not perform a test of the filesystem character set. You can cause setup to test for a proper definition by creating a file in your zp-data folder named charset_tést and re-running setup.If your server filesystem character set is different from ISO‑8859‑1 and you create album or image filenames names containing characters with diacritical marks you may have problems with these objects.Change the filesystem character set define to Unknown ASMO-708 BIG5 CISO2022JP CP1026 CP870 DOS-720 DOS-862 EBCDIC-CP-US EUC-CN EUC-JP EUC-KR GB2312 HZ-GB-2312 IBM437 IBM737 IBM775 IBM850 IBM852 IBM857 IBM861 IBM869 ISO-2022-JP ISO-2022-KR ISO-8859-1 ISO-8859-15 ISO-8859-2 ISO-8859-3 ISO-8859-4 ISO-8859-5 ISO-8859-6 ISO-8859-7 ISO-8859-8 ISO-8859-8-i ISO-8859-9 JOHAB KOi8-R KOi8-U KS_C_5601-1987 MACINTOSH SHIFT_JIS UNICODE UNICODEFFFE US-ASCII UTF-7 UTF-8 WINDOWS-1250 WINDOWS-1251 WINDOWS-1252 WINDOWS-1253 WINDOWS-1254 WINDOWS-1255 WINDOWS-1256 WINDOWS-1257 WINDOWS-1258 WINDOWS-874 cp866apply
    Completed system check
    Set Zenphoto default options
    Theme:effervescence_plus setup started
Notice: "Module mod_rewrite" is working. The Zenphoto option "mod_rewrite" is "enabled".
  • I got it working. The PHP on my server was set to have a "PHP boost". I disabled it and did not get any 500 since then. Looking why the Lightroom plugin fails to publish now...
