Image Description Field

Hi folks,
Zenphoto version 1.4.6-BETA [4196c58634]
My image information is contained in IPTC fields within the image.
The image description field is showing not properly formatted, it's ignoring line brakes.
Instead of displaying,
This is info 1.
This is info 2.
This is info 3.
It's showing,
This is info 1.This is info 2.This is info 3.
It's doing it on Webkit, Gecko and Trident based browsers.
Both on my home server and shared hosting server.
Using Default, zenPage and zpBase themes.
There is no consistent error between home and shared servers in debug.log
In fact nothing from today on shared server.

Cheers.

You need to use HTML to format text using the TinyMCE editor (or any other if there would exist one). It does not really support plain `\n` line breaks (unless I missed something myself of course). Example: http://zenphoto.maltem.de/test.2/1.jpg.html
  • What acrylian is saying is that the WEB in general ignores line breaks and treats them simply as white space.

Yes. I think GrahameNZ might also be using another well known CMS that indeed does turn line breaks into "real" html ones on the front end.

Unless I remember incorrectly we did years ago before the editor was default as well but abandoned it because of conflicts.
  • Hi Folks,
    Thanks for that.
I'm sure Zenphoto used to do it.
I've moved from an oldish version, pre the "hacking time" through to 1.4.6.
    Many changes.
With way over 3000 images in 700 + albums, wading through them in TinyMCE is not an option.
It defeats most of the reason for taking the time to put the info in IPTC in the first place.
acrylian, personally I have only used Zenphoto for a very long time, 1.2 something from memory.
But yes have built sites in other CMS's over the years for others, all have weaknesses and strengths.
For image galleries nothing has beat Zen up to now ..........
sbillard, "What acrylian is saying is that the WEB in general ignores line breaks and treats them simply as white space." Can't say I see that anywhere I go on the web.
Everything I've ever built has recognised normal punctuation rules.
Weather in a CMS or just hand coded.
Not arguing with you though :)
    Cheers.
  • Make yourself a custom print function that substitutes the newline for whatever you want, e.g. a break tag.

    Will look into it, thanks.
But suspect it will need me to use PHP ??
A language I've never come to grips with.
Will have to work something out.
    Cheers.
