New version of dmb

http://www.dualmonitorbackgrounds.com/

Over 5 years ago I launched my zenphoto-based website called dmb - Dual Monitor Backgrounds.
It quickly became the most popular website for that topic, with thousands of unique visitors per day and with the dual monitor market growing each year the traffic also continues to grow.

Today I released a completely rewritten version, still based on zenphoto but with many customisations.

The main advantages of the new version, other than the cool new design, are:
– You can now upload your own images
– You can make money with us by using your own Google AdSense ads on your image and profile pages. You keep 100% of your ad profits.
– The resolution filter is more intelligent
– There is an adult filter, so people accessing the website from work are safe
- Registered users see less ads than guests

I'm very happy with this release and huge thanks to the zenphoto team for this great product. Without you it would have taken 10x longer to make the website.

Thanks! I guess this would have been fitting in the showcase thread as well. I think you are in the showcase gallery so I guess I need to update the entry.

(Just as a side note as it is of course not my business: I hope for you that you are legally save as having official film images you or anyone surely has no rights upon and making money seems a little copyright problematic to me)

    hi
I like the fluid design of the gallery and the albums !

Did you use a jquery plugin to do that ?

I would bet it's plain CSS.

it seems to be with jquery, that dynamically evalute the css properties (magin)
  • @acrylian: You're right that it's something I need to keep in mind. It hasn't been a problem so far but I added the link on each image page saying "Do you own this image? Please let us know here.", so hopefully if anyone has issues they can use that link to contact me and I can delete the image/s.
Thanks for re-adding it to the showcase, I'm honoured :)

@vincent3569: Yes the changing margins are done with jQuery, it's not a plugin but I wrote some code for it. Feel free to use it yourself, it's in http://www.dualmonitorbackgrounds/themes/mmg/js/jquery.mmg.js
I would prefer to do it with CSS since that is generally faster than JavaScript, but I don't think it is possible.

You of course know that this is not legally save at all. And it is not only of owning (who created it) but who has the copyrights (the rights to use it). And on a image from anything commercial that is for sure not for free. Here in Europe this note will not help at all (I bet also not in the US). For example if one of the images would be by me you would have to ask first if you can use it. I could technically directly sue you.
Should should probably get some legal assistance for a correct sentence if you have user contributed content. You are not directly liable for users but on notice you are partly (Having ads is considered commercial use over here).
Of course this is not a legal advice as I am no lawyer.

    No problem.
