Flash upload not working

Hi!

I had Zp running on a server running Windows. Unfortunatly it ran really slow. Not a Zp problem, just no good ISP.

Today I uploaded to a new server, runnig Linux and it runs a lot faster. Unfortunatly uploading with Flash doesn't work on this new server, http works fine.

I run Zp 1.4.2.1,
Apache version 2.0.63
PHP version 5.2.15
MySQL version 5.0.92-community
Operating system linux, cPanel

Since its a clean install of Zp (from the old server I only restored the database) I suspect there is something wrong with my server settings. Anyone got any clues?

Regards,
Laurenz

Did you try another upload method? There are three in total (four if you count FTP direct upload) you can select below on that page.

It might be a permissions issue. You have to look into your server error logs and tell about anything noted there. Otherwise we cannot help.
  • Hi,

As I said in my first post, http upload works fine.

I used FTP, works fine to. I suspected permissions could be the problem, but folder permissions are sett to 777.

As it is just shared hosting I have just limited access to logs on the server. There are no errors in the cPanel error logs. Zp security log does not show any related errors either.
Weird, I really like the flash upload, but will use ftp for now. I'll dig a bit deeper and try to maybe get the correct log from my ISP.

Sorry, missed the part that http works. Does the jQuery upload work? That uses if I recall right also flash to upload as a fallback (Depends on the browser).

Sorry, I have no idea then (btw, I am on shared hosting as well and I have full access to all logs).

btw, 777 is a really insecure permission setting.

If you are the only user on your site I would always recommend ftp. Actually that is the most upload way I use.
  • Same problem with jQuery... altough it seems to upload and even says upload is complete, but then the files do not show in the folder. I just changed to 777 on 1 folder to make sure folder permissions are no issue, the rest are 755.
But.... does Zp use a temp folder during uploading? Perhaps the permission issue is there?

No temp folder. But it might be that your php upload or POST limit is exceeded so it does not work. You should have something about that in your server error log. You need to ask your host about that if you don't have access (or, sorry, move to a host where you have access to logs).

We cannot help otherwise as it is generally working for us.
  • All these uploads do use a temp folder for the upload--that is part of the protocol. This is all controlled by PHP's HTTP POST upload mechanism. Sorry, I do not know what the folder name might be--PHP provides functions to move the files from wherever it put them to where you want them.
  • Thank you very much for your time and input!

Fortunatly things started working today! :-)
As it turns out the flash upload does not work when accessing the site with the IP rather then the domain name. With the domain name propegated it works like a charm.
As everything was working just fine it did not occur to me at all that this could be an issue. One learns more every day.

Anyways, thanks for making Zenphoto, I love it!

Ah, ok, I guess very few people will access their sites using the IP instead of domain..:-)
