I went into the ALBUMS table via cpanel. All the values in the field named THUMB were set to NULL.
When I changed the value to 0 (zero) on a particular album, that album now has random photos as thumbnails.
I did an export of the ALBUMS table and changed all the values to 0 (zero) in the THUMB field.
Then I imported back into the ALBUMS table overwriting all data.
Now all my albums and sub albums show random thumbnails like I wanted them to.
To make these settings the default for future uploaded albums and subalbums I did the following...
Looking in the OPTIONS table on line 154 field name "AlbumThumbSelect". The value was set to 1 (which is "Most recent"). That is what my album thumbs were defaulted to.
I changed the value of this field to 0 (zero) for random.
I uploaded another album and subalbum and each time i refresh the webpage the thumbnil changes.

The images are still the same.
In the video I go to change the Options>Gallery default thumbnail, and after I hit apply, I loose my gallery name.
I also go to albums and try to change the thumbnail options and again after I hit apply, I loose my album name
