resource usage

My host put my site on hold as they said i was using too many resources on the shared server. Anyways, i think it might of been when i was editing photo's with ajax on a gallery of over 250 images. I think these are all displayed on one page. Could we have say 10 or 20 images on the edit pages (similar to the front end) so its not using alot of resources to excute all 250+ images.

Hope i'm making sense here.

  • What host are you using? 250 images is nothing... I use ZP to host galleries of thousands of images. ZP is by far the least resource hungry photo app I have ever used. Its resource consumption pales in comparison to applications such as Coppermine or Gallery.

If you are consuming too many resources for a shared environment, I can pretty much promise you ZP is not the culprit.

That said, you are right in that ZP's backend editing features are very poorly designed for anyone using a gallery to host more than a handful of images. Hopefully this will be taken in to consideration in the next release.

I'd have to agree with slidenby's analysis, ZP is not resource-hungry. It might be confused for such due to the dynamic image loading, but once the images are loaded it uses very efficient algorithms for both disk and CPU usage...

For image processing, Zenphoto ultimately does the same amount of work as any other gallery would, just not all at once. That could be the confusion...
