i have read this part of the user-guide and understand the reasoning behind the "always cache" policy.
http://www.zenphoto.org/news/why-are-images-of-the-correct-size-still-cached-additionallybut i mostly upload ready prepared web images to my zenphoto, with pixel-exact watermarks, optimized sharpening and everything and resaving is really killing the quality of the images.
is it possible to set up the gallery to NOT resize and/or resave the cache images if there is no resize needed?
it would both increase image quality and lessen the load on the server.

So the answer is no, we will not change this behavior.
But you did not state what release you are running. If your images really need no processing they are directly copied to the cache.
example: first original, then cache:

please look at the mushy details on the dress, images for the cache are not copied, but resaved.
will upgrade my install, yes.
thanks.
[SOLVED] solution: use at least 1.4.3
sadly i couldnt find a corresponding thread through my searches and only stumbled upon the help topic.
yes, i could have upgraded first. but in less than a year xubuntu has spoiled me in terms of centralized updates. on wxp i had my regular "check for updates" routine..
anyway.. thanks for the great work.
