Ability to order prints by mail (a la Snapfish)

I suggest some integration with a service (like Snapfish) that allows ordering prints by mail.

My current service is www.fotki.com.

Uploading there lets me brainlessly order prints by mail. And if I permit it - my friends & family, or strangers can order prints too. (Along with this, I even have the option to sell my photos - with or without a % markup of my choice - and lots of finer-grained permissions about who can view pics, access original size images, or buy prints.)

Prints by mail has been handy for group vacations, where fellow travellers wanted pics of themselves afterwards. And if my family overseas wants current photos of us here - now they order whichever they like.

There's probably a market for grandparents ordering baby photos :)

I'm happy to share info or logins with any developer who wants to explore Fotki. I would love to be free of them, and move 100% to Zenphoto.

Thanks for the beautiful product!

  • GameDudeX has written a small shutterfly hack, which you may want to review. Search for shutterfly on the forums (or maybe GameDude - if you see this - throw a link up again in this thread).

This may be something you can either use (if you like Shutterfly, or adapt to your needs).
  • I wonder if there is a simple way to switch (ON or OFF) the appearance of the ORDER button by album. In other words how to provide this function for some albums (and subalbums) but not others?
  • ORDER button? You mean the 'Add to Shutterfly' button?

Also, I this only works per image. I never made this work for an album, just per image, so that's the only time it will show up, when viewing individual images.

Lastly, are you saying that you want it to show up for images in one directory rather than others?
  • "Lastly, are you saying that you want it to show up for images in one directory rather than others?"

    Exactly!

    Sorry for the bad exposition.
  • Well, I've been thinking about it and here's what I came up with. Yeah, it's possible, but now matter how you decide to implement it, it will require some work on your part.

I think the best idea that I came up with is to probably have a text file (it can be blank) along side each photo in the gallery that you want the plugin to show up for. Just name the text file the exact same name as the picture. Then in your image.php file, just write a conditional statement that gets the filename of the current file, removes the extension, adds the .txt (or whatever extension you wanna give it), then checks to see if that file exists. If the file DOES exist, show the plugin, otherwise, don't.
  • Here is an idea. I only want the switch "by directory" so if there is a textfile called "print.txt" in the directory, then show, else not.
  • Yeah, like that. However you want to implement it -- go for it.
