User Guide from A-Z

Zenphoto is installed but I'm having a hard time finding some beginner basics. The User Guide is not really an A-Z guide unless I missed something so it seems to be a hunt for everything.

Is there a tutorial or user guide that helps with step by step detailed basic setup and use of Zenphoto and choice of settings and plugins?

Any screenshots? Details on how to choose and use plugins?

No, there is no such guide. The backend is actually quite self explanatory and a lot is documented right there already. Those parts are not doubled on the user guide.

If you are selfhosting we need to expect that you have some general knowledge about web techniques already or the will to get into it. That especially counts on modifcations of themes. It exceeds our capabilities to explain those, too. There are lots of others sites out there.

The basic setup is what you get right after installing. You can use it right away that way. Zenphoto is flexible so it is up to you what to do else.

The general part of the user guide for a start is probably the FAQ category:

We have tried to create kind of collector articles to cover certain topics.

How you use plugins depends on each plugin itself and is actually documented on the plugin itself. There is a "i" button on the plugins tab.

There is no one way of usage. Some are built in (we only know about the official themes) so you can just enable them. Others require that you need to add functions to your theme to use them and others are more complex and require more work on the theme used.

I hope that helps so far. You are always welcome to ask questions here.

If you are still feeling that a beginner's guide is missing you are also invited to contribute one.

  • I knew it would be a learning process. That is one of the reasons I'm doing it. To learn. I think I panicked a little. I knew there would be a learning curve.

I just didn't realize that the User Guide and Tutorials were more like a reference for specific questions. If you don't know the right term or terms to search for like me than you are reading everything and out of order. That's how it feels anyway.

Don't think I haven't already thought about doing a beginner's guide for dummies like me. LOL :))

Well, as long as you don't mind my asking questions when I can't find it here or in the guide, I'll be around.

I played with the settings and plugins last night until some things started to make sense. I installed it knowing it would take time to set things up before I went live.

    Thanks for your patience.

Once you got into it a bit more you will see it is quite simple to use. It can be a bit overwhelming especially regarding the web terms. But those are not always avoidable for technical reasons.

Sure you are always welcome to ask questions here and we gladly answer or point to the user guide entries if they exist. We are of course into it so we might not see what a beginner wants to. That said we welcome feedback (oder contribution) about unclear or missing things on the user guide as well. There is always room for improvement.
