I think flash galleries are in opposite side to AJAX scripts. ZenPhoto is made to be as small and as light as possible with a lot of AJAX functions in contrary to flash galleries whose aim is different - their main aim is to look... Of course if they use loading photos from external jpgs using xml descriptions they also may be light (but still not as light as other AJAXes)
I was into Flash Galleries a couple years ago. But all that fading! Ug.
Anyway, now that Adobe owns Flash, the new versions of Photoshop and Fireworks will be able to export those kinda galleries.
Ironically, now that Adobe owns Flash, no one really wants it for galleries anymore. ZP looks and acts much smoother. Those Flash movements and fades feel dated.

I challenge someone to do the same with Zenphoto without Flash. It's perfectly possible. ;-)
