New theme, simple, stripped back.

Hello everybody,

I have more or less finished a theme for my own photography site, you can see it here

Your feedback appreciated! I'm sure I am going to have to bug fix it a bit. I havent had the time to go over it with a fine tooth comb..

  • Simon,

Looks GREAT! I can't wait for the release! Not only is it clean and simple, you have great photos in there too. One suggestion, perhaps you could seperate the Previous and Next buttons a little more? Other than that, I love your theme.
  • Love love love the photography!

As for usability, the only minor quibble I could come up with is that the next/prev locations change for every image and make it somewhat difficult to browse through an album. Relocating it up top or floating right underneath the breadcrumb or navbar might make it easier to use, though I can see the aesthetic tradeoff if you prefer them down below.

Either way, very cool stuff :)

Thanks for the kind words re my photography :)

Its a fair point from both of you re the next/prev buttons. I was considering fixing the height of the image. Also because I have that fancy arrow keys nav picked up from the cimi theme I stopped noticing! I think it stays where it is for now at least, but when I get the time maybe I will make a variant.

I will make a plain vanila release of it some time soon, Im a bit backed up with work right now tho :)
  • cant wait for the release
    very nice
  • The Photography ripped up like so - its sublime - great work!

One minor usability concern -- the next/prev links change location with each image (due to image height). This requires the user to move the mouse to a new location with each new image, which is annoying to say the least. For this reason I generally recommend placing these links above the image where they aren't variable in location...

Otherwise, beautiful photography and a very complementary design to it! Nice work!

[Edit: Wow, I totally missed that bitbybit pretty much said EXACTLY what I did. Good call, I agree.]
