Permission errors on upgrade

Hi there,
I'm upgrading to the newest version, but for the life of me I can't get through the setup. Throughout the install I get the following error:

Warning: fopen(/home/mroadmin/madisonriveroutfitters.com/zenphoto/zp-data/setup.log) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/mroadmin/madisonriveroutfitters.com/zenphoto/zp-core/setup/setup-functions.php on line 390

I've mucked about with the permissions and set zp-data (which is empty, should it have contents?) to 777 — still no luck.

I'm at wits end on this one. I've rolled back my DB and files and tried upgrading probably a dozen times now. Any thoughts?

    There is a article on the user guide about permissions. If that all does not work you probably should contact your host.
