PHP Mailer From address fails to connect

Using ZP ver 1.4.11 and PHP Mailer plugin. New users attempting to register receive message "PHPMail failed to send Registration confirmation. Errorinfo: The following From address failed. <main gallery e-mail address>. Called Mail() without being connected.

This address is correct in both Options->General and in Plugins->Mail PHP configuration. We are hosted at HostGator and use POP port 995 and SMTP port 465. Have tried SSL and TLS. The user is added to the database (so can't try again), but does not get an e-mail.

The error seems to indicate that you use the `php sendmail" option? If so then make sure it is really configured on your host.

Also please check all credentials as well. Additionally best look into the Zenphoto and server error logs for possibly other or more detailed error messages.
