Errors below: - I am already running 1.4.11 Zen.
I tried uploading the setup folder and php file from a fresh install - no luck.
In my ftp program I don't see setup - so I couldn't download a backup copy.
In my ftp program I also don't see the old setup folder which I renamed setup_Old using the GoDaddy Cpanel.

And yes, I uploaded to correct place. btw my ftp app does not see "setup" folder even tho it's visible in the cpanel file manager.
And If I don't have to upload the setup folder, what should I have done?
Strange that your FTP client doesn't see the setup folder and file. Maybe file/folder permissions?
Have you tried to run setup "manually" by typing `/zp-core/setup.php` in the browser's address bar?
Please review your php server error log.

I put an album in there and all the filenames are gone, so this won't do.
For us to be able to help you what is going wrong you really need to look into the php error log of the server and post it here. If does not "makes no sense" to you it might make sense to us. Otherwise we are just guessing around and sadly wasting all of our time.

Is there another file I can read?
I deleted my fresh install, still can't access the old gallery, but got a fresh entry in error log:

Is the error from the old site that is not working? Then something is not right with the files I would guess. I can only suggest to delete the whole zp-core folder and re-upload it.
when I created a new zp altogether and transferred over my child theme and an album I had lost all filenames.
What other files do I need to transfer?

Re-uploading is the same as upgrading generally. You never loose "filenames" on that… The albums are physical, You only would loose manual entries like titles if you don't use the same database. Which cannot happen if you follow the instructions.
