The simpler media website CMS
is there a setting the controls the size the ZP will take?
Edit:
It seems to hang with this new album when I try to run cache manager. I have resized a number of the photos. Is there a limit on the size phot cache manager can read?
We seems to work fine otherwise. Pics are visible on website.
Edit2:
Definitely seeing some resource errors

I don't understand what you mean. It depends on the theme etc. used. As said previously themes may request any size which only is covered by the cachemanager if registered. Which is not required. Some themes like the basic theme use the default sizes - those you set on the options - which are always available in the cachemanager. What sizes are processed you define yourself.
Memory issues, probably you have too large images for your server to handle.. That's all server limits.
What I am trying to find out is what limits the size of the image. You have said I have some too large images. I agree that is the case.
But. What size is too large? If I know what to watch for, I can avoid it.
I don't know, depends on your server. I am sure I already posted this link on some other topic: https://www.zenphoto.org/news/problems-with-albums-and-images/
the more images the more server load. And if then metadata is inviolved that is even corrupted (the f file is read to get metadata) that also may add up.
