A new look at Effervescence

Hi, I've been working on a new theme for my main ZP gallery. The design is obviously meant to match my blog, but I wanted something a bit more creative. I decided to take my original Effervescence theme and give it a little touch up.

One of my favorite parts of the original theme was the stark contrast between index/album pages and image pages. I found that the emerald was a bit too aggressive but that distinction really showcased the images, so I gave it an inverted look this time. I also wanted the index page to be a bit more memorable - see for yourself but I still can't decide if I like horizontal scrollbars. As a result the new theme has three distinct layouts, and I am wondering if that's a bit too much.

I would love to hear your thoughts:

  • Very nice Stephane. I always enjoy the work you do. I'm honestly not a big fan of horizontal scrolling, but it seems to work well in your implementation. For comparison's sake, this website: http://www.bottlehead.com/et/et.html has a scrolling products section. It's usable, but contrary to most people's inclination of up to down scrolling of webpages.

Again though, very nice work. Very clean and neatly designed. I do like the newest to oldest organization. That's a pretty nifty way to generate the thumbnails for the albums.

How's this all work with subalbums?
  • I personally don't want to deal with subalbums until we have a good system for tags... Unfortunately that seems pretty far down the line.

I guess it's a bit selfish but I don't feel like reorganizing the hundreds of pictures I have until I'm sure of what I'm doing.

In any case I don't think implementing subalbums would be very difficult. I tried to design this version so it would be a bit more extensible particularly in relation to things like EXIF and tags which I hope to add some day.

If I do release this theme, I'll make sure to work in subalbums ;)
  • Wow, that's pretty darn cool!
