I'm back from vacation and ready to assemble a new development team for Zenphoto. Please post a short resume and why you think you should be on the team, and I'll select 2-4 people and give some real SVN access so you guys can keep working on this project here.
I'll still support it as much as I possibly can, and moreso in the future than in the past few months of nothingness. I apologize for that, but like the license says, I make no guarantees. The liberty of Open Source fortunately means that development can continue even if I fall off the face of the earth, but I'd rather provide support, some development, and at the very least, a server. So stick around, I'll cooperate.
Prospective developers, let's hear your case! You don't have to want to take the whole project over, but you should be willing to fix bugs, tweak PHP, and work a little to make Zenphoto better. I'll be looking for zenphoto experience (theme building, submitting bugs, hacks, modifications... you know, stuff you wish you could have had SVN access to commit ;-), general PHP experience, programming experience, maybe a nice Zenphoto gallery... and anything else you want to share.
I'll assemble a new team and some kind of initial structure and make an announcement by September 14th 2007. At that point Zenphoto development will hopefully continue anew.

Website/Zenphoto: http://www.trisweb.com, http://www.trisweb.com/photos
Day Job: Lead programmer, Silvertip Labs Inc.
Zenphoto experience: founder and lead developer for 3 years. Designed the core software, the "Testing" theme, the "Tricasa" theme with Javascript preloading, and more.
Other related experience: BA/CompSci from UC Berkeley, Wordpress themes/hacks, Custom private-site PHP CMS software, web design, graphic arts, photography, Java/J2EE/Python/PHP expert.
How I plan to help Zenphoto: I want to keep fixing bugs and making sure things run smoothly. I'll test it continually, provide server space and development support, and when I have time, continue developing more improvements and new features.
More about me: I'm also a musician, photographer, writer, and a lot more. I'm starting a company designing enterprise software for a certain niche market, and work in the same industry on old archaic J2EE software, but I have a bumper sticker that reads "I'd rather be working on zenphoto." ;-)
Website/Zenphoto: http://wwww.bushwoodworking.com, http://www.bushwoodworking.com/zenphoto
Day Job: Network Administrator, Exactech, Inc. (http://www.exac.com), 8 years so far.
Zenphoto Experience: Been working with Zenphoto for almost 1 year now, helped design a theme (Thinkdreams), currently a moderator on the Zenphoto forums, helped add some much needed content to the wiki, and made some attempts at some hacks to add features to Zenphoto. I also updated the Effervescence theme to include subalbum support.
Related Experience: Lots of networking background (11+ years), including server setup and maintenance (although maybe not super-relevant here). I have some experience with web design and development. I have some background in scripting, am currently in the learning stages of PHP, MySQL, etc. I support my company's website, and have done most of the maintenance on the website for the last couple years. I also support my wife's business website which runs Wordpress and Zen Cart (both PHP/MySQL as well). Thus I have a lot of support background, both with help desk and network support as well as web site support.
How I plan to help Zenphoto: I'd like to continue my role as a moderator on the forums (keeping spam and such at bay), and helping people as I can while I learn more about Zenphoto as it moves along. I may not be up on all the latest development and coding, but I can help support it and keep an eye on the forums for everyone. It would be good to have TRAC wiki admin access to help edit and maintain the wiki side/documentation of Zenphoto. And I'll be happy to work with the development team to make sure the docs are up to date with the latest revisions, etc.
About me: I am a woodworker, father of 2 (soon to be 3), and husband to a work at home mom. I enjoy using zenphoto to display my woodwork, and it helps me to keep a log of my hobby.
Thank you both for your replies.
Website: Sounds very strange I know but I do not have a website of my own currently but the base of the upcoming will be zenphoto.
I let you know when I am finished... But I did websites using zenphoto for others, please see "related experience" for that.
Day Job: Freelance Illustrator, Graphic Designer and Webdesigner for a few years now.
ZenPhoto Experiences: Working with zenphoto for a few months now. I discovered it searching for a easy way to display my work without spending hours in modifying image galleries manually.
I tried a few little things for zenphoto recently:
Album Menu function (working on an updated currently):
http://www.zenphoto.org/support/topic.php?id=1395
Comment RSS-feed based on the latest comments function from admin.php:
http://www.zenphoto.org/support/topic.php?id=1678
Expanding the RSS-feed to a gallery and album feed based on work by Alenonimo and Thinkdreams:
http://www.zenphoto.org/support/topic.php?id=764
Image Counter like "Image 1 of 25 Images" for Image.php
http://www.zenphoto.org/support/topic.php?id=205
A theme functions reference (a draft, planned to be expanded and move to the trac wiki):
http://www.zenphoto.org/support/topic.php?id=560
German translation:
http://www.zenphoto.org/support/topic.php?id=1658#post-9353
I am planning to do a theme too if my time allows.
Related Experience: Working as a webdesigner I have fairly good knowledge about HTML and CSS and since last year I try to follow the webstandards as strictly as possible (you never stop learning these things, don't you?...)
Here three websites which use zenphoto (a fourth is about to come and my own of course): http://www.bosnervos.de (in combination with Wordpress, still tweaking here and there)
http://www.eiscafe-tanduo.de
(in combination with Website Baker)
http://www.christophclasen.de
(in combination with Website Baker)
And also a few other websites, some a little older (sometimes with code I am surely not proud of anymore...):
http://www.michaelmowitz.de
http://www.literatex.de
http://www.kaigrehn.de
http://www.motion-vibes.de
http://www.clasen-architekten.de/
http://www.rechtsanwalt-zeising.de/ (uses frames...arg...but is already scheduled for relaunch)
I have no SVN Experience, too, I even don't know what that is exactly...
How I plan to help ZenPhoto: Coming from designing I am relativ new to PHP which I startet to learn only a few months ago because I felt it was about time that I at least know the basics. Surely that does not qualify me that much for a developer but I am motivated to help what I can. So I would like to continue providing little function addons and/or expanding/improving already made ones if I can.
And maybe Craig could use a little help in maintaining the documentation wiki. That could become a lot of work for one person. I could expand my already started theme function reference for example.
If some day there is localization I would like to expand the german version, too.
Of course being an Illustrator and designer I could be of help in design issues if needed.
About me: As a freelancer I work a lot or my job is a kind of hobby (but don't tell anyone..:-)). Being a Mac user for years I do a little computer support for friends and fellow illustrators ocasionally. (And as a big film music fan I like doing little composing for fun if I have the time.)
Website: http://la0c00n.info (and http://la0c00n.info/zenvideo), http://lookiad.fr , and many others sites made with Lookiad (see below)
Day Job: Student in Computer Science at the ENIB (http://www.enib.fr, it's a french engeneering school, so the website is in French), Founder of Lookiad, a "junior company" working on web development and design ( http://lookiad.fr/en , in English !).
Zenphoto experience: Developper of ZenVideo ( http://la0c00n.info/zenvideo ), working on the password protection of albums (not released yet), made several themes, but private, because used by clients of Lookiad.
Other related experience: Several private website, plus websites for lookiad (see the portfolio). This website use zenphoto : http://jeudisenib.org/?v=photos (made with lookiad) I'm good on creating website, currently learning C++ and Java in my school and spare time. I'm a bit geeky (reading SF, Fantasy,...).
Actually, i'm working on the new student's website for my school.
How I plan to help Zenphoto: I want to implement the support of videos for zenphoto. But it would be better to work on plugin integration for zenphoto and THEN create the video plugin.
As i said, i'm a developper, not really a designer, so i can't help making some new themes, but i can help on the Xhtml/Css code !
Actually, lots and lots of new functions are created for zenphoto (just look in the forums), but aren't implemented in any good way. I think, we shouldn't wait after the 2.0 release for working on plugins but create it NOW !
Imagine a zenphoto, with a plugin for GPS Localisation of photo, integration of google maps, support of videos, support of every language... and every plugin would be able/disable with a nice admin interface. Wouldn't it be great ?
More about me: I'm a mac fanboy, but a linux geek deeply inside ! I think it's important to mention i'm french (so my english is a bit.... strange !) and i'm a student too (means young and foolish... and sometimes drunk !).
Website/Zenphoto: http://www.thenullpointer.net
Day Job: Programmer, System Administrator, Web Developer, Usability Advisor, University of Washington
Zenphoto Experience: Geospatial Patch for ZenPhoto (Trac#78). Bug hunting/fixing.
Other Related Experience: BS Informatics from University of Washington. Discovr (dis.covr.us, spin off of a capstone project). Wordpress/Drupal Hacking. Facebook Developers Platform Applications (Console Identities and Server Uptime). Misc Web Development. PHP, Python, Perl (ick), Java, C# (ick). SVN, Hg, and a tiny-tiny bit of Git.
How I Plan to Help Zenphoto: I really would love to develop ZenPhoto's geospatial awareness. I also want to improve (bug fixes *and* enhancements) the administration interface.
More: I'm a nerd at heart and I love to learn new things. But I also enjoy hiking, camping, fishing, geocaching, and (of course) photography. I'm also fan of seeing plays (recently: Uncle Vanya and Prayer for My Enemy) and an avid movie go-er.
I also want to say that everyone who wants to will be part of the development team in some way. I'm going to give SVN commit privileges to only two or three though, to keep things manageable. Those two or three (plus me, of course) can manage the codebase, accept patches from others, and eventually decide to give commit privileges to others if they do good work. I think that'll work fairly well so we avoid conflicts over the codebase (literal and figurative conflicts ;-).
We can discuss politics more once everything's more clear in a couple weeks.
Website/Zenphoto: http://albums.sbillard.org (test site: http://testalbum.sbillard.org)
Day Job: None (I am retired)
Zenphoto Experience: Not much. I have merged the SimpleViewer and Effervescence themes and added subalbum paging. I have hacked sorting of subalbums and fixed a problem where having no images in an album breaks some of the PHP output resulting in prematurely truncated theme pages.
Related experience: I was a primary implementer of the Burroughs Master Control Program for the Burroughs mainframe computers. I worked in software development for 35 years in all sorts of roles, including Director of Operating Systems development at the Unisys (nee Burroughs) facility in Mission Viejo, CA. I have also authored and published a number of Shareware, Freeware, and commercial software packages including: Printographer for the Apple II (a commercial package--you guys are too young to remember) and the GUI front end for QuadToneRIP, a B&W printing RIP. My sole experience with PHP is from what I have done with Zenphoto, but I learn fast.
How I plan to help Zenphoto: I will contribute such enhancements and fixes as I can. I will also participate in the support forum supplying answers to problems when I can. I have no experience with SVN, so someone else should be elected to run it. I would volunteer to be a moderator of the forum if there is a need.
About me: I have been working in the computer industry since my graduation from Yale in 1966. I have two grown children who are both working in the computer industry living in the Bay area. When I graduated from college I made a conscience decision to go into the computer field rather than into photography since I believed that computers cost more than cameras. Now I'm not so sure! I use Zenphoto to host my photo albums.
Note: I have edited my original post as I have added a test site now that Zenphoto is moving again. I also fixed my typographical errors—please ignore my first post. The test site is the best demonstration of the changes I have made to Zenphoto.
Moderator Note (thinkdreams): I removed the original post so you don't have to worry about ignoring it.
Website/Zenphoto: www.wtjr.org
Day Job: Broadcast Engineer
Zenphoto experience: New user. But I think that would be helpful in writing guides.
Other related experience: wordpress websites and mod themes
How I plan to help Zenphoto: I would like to help writing user guide. Mod guide. Install guide and so on. Basically a operations manual ! (The things that always get put off!) (: A documentation tab on this website would be nice.
More about me: I enjoy modding wordpress themes. I also like to write operation manuals.
Maybe I could be like a stringer for the team.
Or should I just start posting in the wiki ?
I just started something in the wiki if thats allowed it would be helpful if I had a outline of the old wiki contents..
Website: http://www.gamedudex.com
ZenPhoto: http://www.gamedudex.com/gallery
Day Job: Systems Administrator/IT Support/Network Administrator/Web Developer, Radiologic Technologist Student
Zenphoto Experience: Developer of the Akismet Hack, the first ZenPhoto "how to make a theme" tutorial, theme developer, helped create some of the documentation.
Other related experience: Originally Computer Science major. Experience with C, C++, win32 api, Java, JavaScript, mySQL, and PHP.
How I plan to help Zenphoto: Well, when I get out of school (January 2010), I would still like to help "fill the gap" wherever needed as much as possible. Like mentioned before, I cannot help now, but I'm just filling this out because I don't wanna be forgotten.
More about me: I'm getting out of the computer field and moving into the health field, specifically, Diagnostic Medical Imaging -- it's just planning for my future. I'm still very much into computers and technology, but right now I need to focus on my school because it is an extremely intense 2.5yr program.
Day Job: Coldfusion Developer/web developer/Project Manager (http://www.sfa.umkc.edu)
Zenphoto Experience: I've been using ZenPhoto for a very long time now and have been an active forum member. As of late, I have incorporated all of the fixes/upgrades since the stop of the SVN updates and released it as a community build.
Other related experience: Coldfusion, SQL, Web-design (I develop many small sites a month for work)
How I plan to help Zenphoto: I think the most important thing I could do is already done, I asked for this team to be made and here it is being made. Other than that, I try to help people out on the forums, update the Ticketing system and Wiki. I think I have a good idea of what Tris was trying to do with the 'less is more' philosophy and would like to try to make sure it stays that way.
More about me: I graduate in December with a Sociology Degree and go into Law a year from now. I started as a CS major and decided that it wasn't something that I'd like to do for a job, so I keep it as my hobby.
I'll try to form the team next week, as I think we have enough replies. If you're interested in SVN access and think you'll be good at and comfortable with managing the codebase, please let me know in a reply just so I know who can do what.
Website/Zenphoto : http://jbaviat.free.fr/photos
http://www.recitalchant.org, not yet freely accessible
Day Job: Student, ENSIIE, a French postgraduate school in computer science
Zenphoto experience: various installations, personnal development of RSS feeds (se my first website), sent to the developpers but with no answer
Other related experience: Various web development (including professionnal website conception, php / MySQL, in a 2 year almost done work for www.recitalchant.org), TYPO3 extensions development, strong Linux knowledge
How I plan to help Zenphoto: I would like to help to fix bugs, and to add some nice "Web 2.0" features such as...
- Rating (the five star thing)
- Tags (and maybe an adapted simple "search engine")
- , RSS (I've seen Malte has already did it, in fact my comment feed is great but the "new images" is buggy),
- EXIF (auto rotate...)
- and (more ambitious) a geographical information concerning albums and pictures : a map could be displayed (using Google Maps) in order to show where are located the pictures, and for example if an album concerns a city, a map of the city could be shown on user's demand, showing where in the city the picture has been taken.
More about me: I love mountain bike, computers, but also my school (involved in some associations), movies, Paris, philosophy... and I am actually in Osterreich in internship in a network laboratory with my girlfriend. And of course I'm glad to see some movement on zenphoto.org ! I thought it was abandonedEveryone here be sure to help organize a Zenphoto Team Meeting (text chat) date and time in the following thread. I'd love it if as many of you as possible could make it.
http://www.zenphoto.org/support/topic.php?id=1710&replies=1

How I plan to help Zenphoto: Help out where I can moderating forum, testing installations, provide educated feedback from testing. I dont have as much time to be real active on the forums, however.. i practically hibernate in the winter time, so you will probably start seeing more of me.
More about me: I like being outside, working out, fitness, running, basketball, football.. aww heck.. all sports no matter how silly. Hanging out with friends and taking photos of everything. Oh and BBQ's.. I love me some BBQ's
