Next version: use jQuery?

Hi,

Well is it even in consideration to switch to jQuery and drop prototype and scriptaculous? Or is there a way to switch over myself?

I am not a fan of prototype or scriptaculous and rather use jQuery how do you guys think of this?

  • We do have jquery in 1.1 and I think we could save quite a bit of space if we did switch over but thats a lot of work.

Not tons of work -- I am planning to do it. The only things we use Scriptaculous for right now are drag-'n-drop sorting and fade effects. jQuery and the interface library can handle those even better, so I want to switch.

    jQuery rocks :)
  • Great to hear!!! Glad you guys like jQeury better too. So next version "the switch"? Or put it in the trac when planned?

    Can't wait for this...

  • Yea, the next version will have the switch. But ZenPhoto is a community project, if you figure it out on your own you are always welcome to post it in the forum or trac.
  • General question: I currently use Prototype (and Scriptaculous to a certain extent - though I have no use for fancy fading and sliding - I just change the page). What are the big advantages of JQuery over Prototype? Enough for me to change my Javascript in all my work?
  • Well a lot of the things are arguable, but its the easiest to write for, the easiest to extend, and the fastest, among other things like a UI
