We can (and will) fix the upload problem. However, everyone needs to be aware that there are some characters which if in a file name will cause various degrees of difficulty.
Single quote is one. Also percent signs. I imagin that if you had a file with a double quote it would also be a problem, but (fortunately) Windows won't let you create a file with a double quote.
If you FTP files with these characters, you will have problems.
Zenphoto used to support files of any legal filesystem name, Windows or Unix.
While we can't promise we'll return to that state, it is a goal. We apologize for the bugs with filenames in the meantime, but try to name them reasonably :-)
I still think this is a server config issue somehow (see the example here, it worked on his server, but not on the two I tested: http://www.zenphoto.org/support/topic.php?id=1763&page=4&replies=93). All the hosts I know simple don't tolerate these characters in filenames, neither directyl nor through zenphoto... but I will be glad to be proofed wrong.
I just finally got around to upgrading my test site before I upgrade my main site. I was extra cautious because of the change from /zen to /zp-core as I knew it would break a lot of my zenphoto plugins.
I too ran into this problem. I didn't notice I had that many folders with ' in them. This is mainly due to the fact that this server is local and not out on the web somewhere, so I name things how I would name them on my local computer. So yeah. it would be great to see this go back to the way it was with folder/file names. I have a lot of zenphoto galleries in a lot of different places which I have setup for others. It would take a long time go rummage through all the databases and relink the albums so the comments stay in tact.
If you suspect it is going to be a while I may just do it anyways. I already have to run through many of them and relink back up for the zenphotopress linking problem with the zen root change.

Also, don't put them in zip archives you upload.
