Current implementaion could leads to penalties in search engines

All current versions of Zenphoto "suffer" on the so called "duplicate content" problem, which could leads to penalties in search engines like Google. All linked tags, the archive, RSS feeds... should get a rel="nofollow" attribute within the anchor. You should either think about to modify the related functions (e.g. printAllTagsAs, printTags, printRSSLink...) or the themes. If you think this is not a problem, look for the term "duplicate content" and the possible effects concerning the rating of a website.

  • You've come up with some good suggestions for RSS. The duplicate RSS in default/images.php is removed, and all RSS links have rel="nofollow" and \n attached now. You'll want to grab the latest SVN or wait tomorrow for the nightly build.
  • Sounds good, thank you.
  • Currently you did improve just the printRSSHeaderLink, which is not enough I think. What about the other ones who generate clickable links, like printRSSLink or printAllTagsAs? They should also get a nofollow attribute. It makes no sense that search engines follow those links, because all that content exists somewhere in their different albums, subalbums... Users (usually) not interested to find their RSS Feed, archive or tag cloud within the SERPS. This definitely leads to duplicate content. Maybe you could add an option, where the user can decide how to handle it, with or without a nofollow.

We will definately add that, but give us a little time, we can't do everything at the same time. (Although I personally think that many people are a little too "paranoic" especially about that "duplicate content" issue, May sound a little "blasphemous" to the google god I know...:-))
