404 errors on new 1.1.3 installation in subfolder

Hi,

I'm getting a 404 page not found error when I click on the link for an album. Any ideas how to fix it?

I installed a new copy of Zenphoto 1.1.3 in a subfolder /private/zenphoto. This "private" directory already had a .htaccess and .htpasswd in it. Before runing the setup php I edited in the MYSQL database details so it went smoothly except that it popped up a message that there was not .htaccess in the installation folder ("zenphoto"). Next it asked me to set an admin name and password with no problems. Then I went in and changed a few options including turning on mod rewrite.

My next step was to move a few photos into the albums folder in the new installation. It then shows a link to the new album, but no thumbnail, and clicking the link returns 404 error.

When I installed Zenphoto 1.1.2 it already had (or generated a .htaccess) and I had to add my password commands to it. Looking in the Zenphotos folder with my FTP client there's no .htaccess.

Do I need to upload a blank .htaccess or is the "private" folder that zenphoto is installed in messing with the view permissions.

I know the new version protects galleries, but since it doesn't protect individual image urls, I want to stick with .htaccess and I won't be using the zenphoto "password protection. I can with no bother delete the zenphoto folder and delete the tables from the database, and reinstall. I would prefer this gallery to be in the "private" folder since it has all the usernames and passwords already set up. However, I'm willing to move this installation to root and set up a separate .htacess and .htpasswd if needed.

Any recommendations on what to do? Thanks.

Oh and by the way, it's a very nice re-design of the main website!

  • If you copied all the zenphoto files into your /private/zenphoto folder then there should have been an .htaccess file copied as well. So, I am thinking maybe not everything got copied. Is there an index.php file there?

The .htaccess file in /private/ should be inherited if there is none in the zenphoto folder.
  • Hi sbillard,

Thanks for the reply. I use a Mac so the .htaccess that was in the unzipped zenphoto folder on my desktop was invisible in the Finder - it was there when I looked with the ftp client. Unfortunately, my stupid webhost server often "times out" if I upload more than a dozen items at a time. :( So I used the Finder to drop the files into my FTP client a few at a time and missed the invisible .htaccess this time.

    It's working now. :)

Sorry for my error. Thanks for pointing me to the right place to look for the file.
