Manual sort of albums opens other page - hard to sort

Hello!

In a fresh installation of Zenphoto 1.1.3, I have selected "manual" sort of the albums in the options. When I try to drag a sub-album to another order under "edit" as soon as I let go, it opens up into another page where you can edit every thing about that gallery. It looks like it's supposed to stay on that sort order page until you're down dragging them into the order you want so you can click the "save order" button.

When you are in that other full editing page, clicking save doesn't change the album's order. Going back in the browser and hitting refresh sometimes show the new order, but most times the new order doesn't stick.

Am I doing something wrong here or is this a bug? I tried with Safari and Firefox.

Oh, and another quick question, it looks like you're supposed to be able to sort by "ID" but I don't see anyplace to see or change the ID. I'd let Zenphoto order the albums automatically, but everything is showing up with the same "date" because they were created during installation.

Thanks.

I used to have this to..untill I discovered that for ordering the albums you must not grab the thumb but put the mouse on the description and move to were you want it.

ID sorts the album by date the photo was uploaded which can be different then the date in the date field which is the exif date.
  • The "ID" field is actually the "record number" of the image in the database. You can't change it. BertSimons is correct that this ammounts to being able to sort by the order the images were uploaded.

If you are not running the nightly build you may be seeing a problem where the sort order is not shown because the sort type is not actually set to manual. Try setting it to manual before doing the manual sort. (Or download the nightly build.)
  • Thanks for the replies.

I can live with the sort being kind of goofy until the next final release. I found a way to change the date of the album and now it more or less orders them by date. At this point, I'm out of time to do another installation.

In case it helps with the diagnostic of the issue:

It was already set to Manual sort and saved before I tried to re-order the albums. After seeing this I re-saved the "manual sort again", refreshed the database, and tried manually sorting. It doesn't matter if I click on the image or the link. It doesn't save the order.

My 1.1.2 installation let me sort the albums manually. I did just replace the 1.1.2 installation by moving those files out of the directory and making sure the 1.1.3 had a different table prefix. I can put the 1.1.2 files back into the directory, move the 1.1.3 files out temporarily and see if the 1.1.2 let's me re-order the albums without the extra full edit page popping up if that would help.

Otherwise, I'll stand by for the next official release. :) Thanks for the help.
  • The problem that was fixed has been around for a while. Since well before 1.1. If the full edit page is popping up it is most likely that your browser has double clicked on the album while you are dragging it.
  • Hi sbillard,

I just installed the nightly build because of the image page downloading the image, and the problem is improved. It still opens up the other page, but when I click the browser to go back the order has stuck and I can click save and it does. :)

I'm using Safari and Firefox - both are fairly standards compliant, so I can't figure out why they would double click. But! now that I figured out sorting by the date that I enter for the album I'll leave it set for that.

It was fairly easy to upgrade to the nightly build, by the way. :) I'm hoping all is well now.

I also sent a token donation because this is a great project and I'm too uninformed to help with code.

    Thanks for your help.

Spike: I am Safari user too, just don't click on the album name while dragging, click on the white space next to it. To drag you need to hold the mouse button so that when you click on the album name link and release it, it's clicked. This has nothing to do with any browser.
  • oops that was exactly what I meant above but wrote wrong, click on the white space instead of the thumb or description, sorry..

maybe it's a good idea to add a drag icon in the whitespace?

I think we have already enough icons there (and we don't know which for future feature may follow). Basically you can click everywhere except on album thumb and album name. That should not be that hard, I hope. Maybe we should just add a sentence with a hint on that page. (or maybe we just need an admin user manual...:-)
