.htaccess Server Error

When I copied zenphoto to my webiste directory (it is /photos), the .htaccess was excluded. I am not a developer and I am stumpted. From this forum:

A. I have checked to see if it is hidden. It is not.
B. I have modified the RewriteBase line to RewriteBase /photos

But I still can't get it copied to my local directory. If I try to import the file, I get the following error message: Server Error: The URL '.htaccess' is invalid. It may refer to a nonexistent file or folder, or refer to a valid file or folder that is not in the current Web.

How do I get this file to my site?

Kind regards.

  • Did you use FTP to copy it? Are you running a MAC or PC? I understant that MACs make this file hidden unless you jump through hoops.

You might try the FileZilla FTP client http://filezilla-project.org/ for uploading, etc.

MatthewH: If you use a Mac look you can't see, copy, work with a file with an "." at the beginning. Files with that are considered unix core files on a Mac and are sort of "forbidden". Please look my answer in this thread: http://www.zenphoto.org/support/topic.php?id=2242&replies=4

PS: There are more maclike programs for FTP than FileZilla like the open source Cyberduck or the commercial Transmit besides others.
  • I am on a PC. I used another tool through my web host to get the .htaccess loaded.

Now my challnege is that I am getting a 500 Internal Server Error when I navigate to the setup.php on my site. Any thoughts?

    Kind regards,
  • Check the permissions on the .htaccess folder and on the zp-core folder. They may not have execute permissions for everyone.
  • Some files were missing from the cgi-bin. Problem resolved. Thanks
  • Can you tell me what files were missing? My webhost upgraded the webserver to Apache2 and php5 and since then, I can't use the .htaccess file.
  • Miem,

Apparently, I was thorough enough to delete all of them. Sorry, no help here.
