i guess there are already some threads to my question,
but i did not find an answer at all.
so here we go:
in my gallery there are about 50 images.
some of them are landscape/horizontal - sized to 400x300px.
others are vertical/portrait - sized to 300x400px.
in that demo gallery on www.zenphoto.org everythings seems to work fine.
have you any suggestions why in my gallery ALL photos only shown up with
400x300 px???
thanks again ;-)

i use that default theme, but i changed the css a little.
thanks again...
There are a lot of tools available (most better image editing tools like Gimp or even PhotShop and some good image viewing tools) to rotate the image and save it, and then remove the EXIF rotation information (so you get a portraited picture with no EXIF rotation information, resp. a “don’t rotate†information). GD, which is used by zemphoto is not able (by itself) to recognize if there are EXIF rotation informations in the image and dont rotate it. So you allways will get a landscaped picture, because this is, what the image is saved in if you don’t edit the image.
FYI: Digital photos are always in landscape format because of the sensor layout. If you rotate your camera the built-in position sensor sets the EXIF rotating data. but the camera still records a landscape picture, because the sensor itself is landscaped.
Recapitulation: if the editing/displaying program is not able to parse EXIF information, you will always get a ladscaped picture, because this is, what the digital camera creates. To view/edit the portrait image in a tool, that is not able to parse EXIF data, you’ll need to “postprocess†he image first (rotate it manually)

A more suscinct recap: Get a photo processing program and use it to orient the photos before you upload them.
