Anyone working on better themes?

Don't get me wrong, the default theme is great. Clean and simple. However, it seems like there hasn't been any theme activity for the project. There have been some slight variations such as the lightbox implementation by Chilifrei64, but there asn't been any real variation. I find this the one thing Zenphoto is lacking compared to many of the other gallery apps. I assume it's because of the young age of this project that the theme development is lacking, but I would really like to see someone with some design talent to whip up a few decent themes. Maybe something with some color or at least a variation on the simple centered rectangle.

Thank you.

  • I too have felt the same way about the themes, I myself plan on making some once we get a definate stable release out. That lightbox theme was just cause I saw so many people crying for it and it is absolutely simple to create.

As for everyone who has modified their themes or made one. Please post it for download.. if you dont want to host it let me know and I can host the download.. I have seen a few people who have modified their theme and looks nice. (and I am not talking just a color change.)Please post for others to use.. Lets see some creativity.. :-D
Also, one thing I think we need, and I know we have the sticky for making themes but maybe the developers can come up with "Standard Practice" what needs to be included and any standards that need to be followed to ensure the integrity of the themes for zenphoto
  • I have modified ZenPhoto for a client's website I'm currently working on. It's still under development, so please excuse any bugs / typos you might see. I'm hoping to have this site finished in the next couple weeks.

  • Let me just say, kenbacca's work on the client's sit is great. That is exactly the kind of creativity I would love to see released in a theme.
  • Wow, what a great looking site. Good work kenbacca!
  • I guess I shouldn't complain about a problem without first attempting a solution, so here's a screenshot of my first zenphoto theme, coming soon.

WARNING! I am not a graphic designer. This will not be good by the standard of web design out there. However, maybe it will poke a few others in the right direction.

  • hey man.. not bad.. atleast you are trying.. One thing I am finding with zenphoto is during the development process. trisweb has made this album VERY easy to work with.

I too am working on a theme but I am still to embarrased to show it because I lack graphics talent and I always seem to leave out EVERY color in the spectrum except blues and greys... which leaves my work dark and dull...
  • thatlittleguy:
I like the borders around your photos. Looks good.
  • Thank you very much!
  • Just posted v0.1 of the green theme I was working on. Check it out at this forum thread here:

I tried out "Stopdesign Theme" looks quite nice... works also with new version 1.0.1b... and it's quite different from the default theme.

    Paul.
  • Does anyone have this theme or know where I can get it?:
    Sterile by Levi Buzolic
I thought the working example on the admin demo was quite nice.

    Thanks!
  • I was gonna start one, but school has started now. I'll try and whip one out at spring break.

    @thatlittleguy
    Cool! I like green.
  • Found the Sterile theme.

@kenbaca -- I really like what you've done with that photography site. Perhaps you should design some generic themes! ;-)
  • @kenbacca: i, too, love your template, and the photos, though i'm not sure if those are your client's or yours. either way, this gallery simply kickass! it's bookmarked :) pls release a template for zenphoto!
  • Thanks. The photo's are my clients. I'd be more than happy to work on a theme after I get caught up on some client work.

I'm going to make a new theme for my personal site. Whenever I get that one finished I'll upload it here.
  • hi, try this:
    link
its a heavily modified version of the dave bowmans stopdesign theme, with a few new things, such as being able to click on the images to move to the next/previous, and it uses locations etc. Oh, and it has some lovely js for image fade in on loads..

Dont really have much time at the moment to do any work on it, but its just something I knocked up in a couple of evenings. There are a few bugs in it for IE, but its a little hard for me to get access to IE.. oh well.
  • bensp, that looks great, anyway you could link to the themes install ZIP file? Thanks.
  • bensp, I really dig the mouseover next and previous text displayed over the image. It adds a very unique touch.
  • Ok, I updated it to ZP 1.0.1beta and zipped it up, with instructions.

Still a few bugs, but they'll be ironed out with people using it
If you download it, let me know how it goes :)
    Enjoy
  • I would love to make themes If I can get the damned thing to work. Everythg is installed correctly Im just having path problmes.
  • Very nice theme's Bensp and kenbacca!
  • I am happy that the stopdesign theme I converted for the zenphoto beta version is still used and gets updated, so i decided to start work on a new theme for zp - i will release it soon.

There should be a central repository for all themes. If zenphoto.org could create a sub-site such as themes.zenphoto.org or if someone else would feel up to the task of hosting a central site perhaps a free one at zenphoto-themes.blogspot.com. It would make it a little easier on all of us. That's just my 2 cents. Ard.
  • Ard,
    aitf did that HERE.
  • since I was bored and for some reason I enjoy sitting on the computer when I dont have to work tomorrow I decided to make this up.

Very nice, Ard. I've been meaning to do that.

Actually, the Wiki is pretty much up-and-running. Perhaps y'all can move it there when it goes public this week.
