Waiting for nightly build so am reading posts In a search, found mention of a slideshow in Flash but no other mention of any type of slideshow that is found in many types of image albums. Is this being considered?
We currently do not have a slideshow functionality, but it's somehow on the list, I guess (but probably more Javascript/Ajax than Flash, since jQuery, one of the Aja has a slideshow functionality...:-))
I was able to get jonDesign's gallery's slideshow to work.
www.omeiza.net
It is an external addin. This is quite great without the need for flash. That reads all the images in the album folder and each subdirectory. It does a pretty decent job with randomization from past forum post on here.
I will post instructions once I get the chance this weekend.
I have a question. How does the Smugmug slideshow work? It is really cool how it is a full screen slideahow. Could Zenphoto eventually support a feature like this?
Please do consider fullscreen as an option. Without Flash I suppose the entire computer's screen is impossible but at least one which takes up the entire browser window.
@acrylian. Congratulations, the slideshow is really nice but I do not see how to make the images automatically occupy the entire browser window (not fullscreen). Is this possible in the current implementation?
Of course, I do hope one day the Flash option will be available because I am having serious SmugMug envy when I see their fullscreen slideshow.
Thanks. I am not sure what you mean with full screen? The browser window is relative so you never know when it is fully occupied. The slideshow uses the already created cached sized images from image.php via the album/image classes for effectiveness to prevent a delay and skipping of (too much) images if displaying. But you also can set a specific size in the plugin options.
And the flash option is available, you need to activate the flowplayer plugin and change the slideshow mode to "flash".
@acrylian: WOW, didn't know that a flash option was available. Excellent. The pace of innovation at Zenphoto is hard to keep up with.
The thing is I could not get the FLASH slideshow to work even though the JQUERY slideshow worked perfectly well. In the Flash slideshow the screen remains black as the slideshow "plays." Here is what I did:
1. I chose Mode: FLASH instead of JQUERY in OPTIONS>>PLUGINS OPTIONS>>SLIDESHOW 2. The only multimedia player I enabled in PLUGINS is Flowplayer (Ver 1.0.1.2). 3. I purged the cache, refreshed the database and pre-cached images although I don't think it was necessary. 4. I tried 3 different browsers including Safari although I think the browser is irrelevant. 5. I am using ZenPhoto version 1.1.6 [1751] with the default theme. The Slideshow plugin is version 1.0.2.6.
@acrylian Thank you for the quick response. Unfortunately upgrading to zenphoto version 1.1.6 [1779] did not solve the problem. Here is the URL of the site: http://www.jayantray.com
And again an even quicker response..:-) The slideshow is not allowed to access the images. Safari tells "forbidden".
The flash mode uses the full size images so that the full screen mode will look better (thinking they have a bigger size). It works for me even having both the protected view and the hotlinking prevention activated.
Amazing. I have a stopwatch running for the next reply.
Ohhh I have a .htaccess lock in Albums. Thank you.
It works now but is there anyway to let it work with a .htaccess file in place?
Also, what about an external album folder?
One other question. Is it possible to default the Flash slideshow to launch directly in Fullscreen mode? The reason I ask is that Flowplayer's Fullscreen button is tiny and non-techie types might never know that it is an option.
I just checked with a fully functional external folder setup and I can confirm that although Zenphoto works fine the slideshow looks just like it did when I had the .htaccess file inside the albums folder. Obviously I ensured my external folder had no .htaccess file in it. So maybe that is something for you to look at.
Re Fullscreen. The back button is definitely an issue. Where does Flowplayer return to if the initial state is fullscreen? The problem is the initial player is tiny on my screen and the Fullscreen button is tinier still. But once pressed everything looks great.
Maybe the Zenphoto theme generate a separate Fullscreen button which says something like "Press me for better view"? Just kidding, just a button generated by the Theme saying `Fullscreen` should be ok.
To the folder issue, I have no idea, since it's working for me and sbillard without any special setup. Does the folder not have read permission maybe? A wild guess...
Re Fullscreen: Actually I agree that the player is a little small by default (actually I am more a fan of the jQuery variant...:-)). It takes the defaul size from the flowplayer plugin. So it might be a good idea to have a separate setting for hte slideshow. Considere that done.
@macalter: I don't think so, if it works till now it should too. The "core" has not been changed. And of course we are talking about the flash mode only.
Could it be a user-end option as oppose to Admin making the choice? If the person can run Flash mode then let them have that option to see the slideshow in that mode. Akin to having html or flash options for pages.
The full size button was actually meant for the theme. I will see if that is possible, have to research flow players options (Btw, I don't really like sites with Flash/html options, to be honest I don't even like complete flash sites, too..:-))
@Jayray999: Tonights nightly will have separate width/height settings for the flow player in the slideshow and a note where to click for the full size mode below the player. I could not find any (easy) way to do that by default.

I have to check if Flowplayer can be lauched in full screen. But then we would have another problem: How to get back to the album or images page?
(What does you stopwatch say?....:-))

I will investigate a full screen button.
I am going to try the slideshow with external folders again.
