URL slashes within description

``

is how Zenphoto shows the URL (Admin mode) `` when I included it within the description box for the image. How do I fix as I'd like the URL to be clickable.

The syntax of an link is:
`Add your text that should be clickable here`

I strongly recommend that you get into the basics of html....
  • I have the basics. The URL is correct as it's direct paste from the site. I added the target to force new page open. The ">Add your text that should be clickable here" part I just didn't include in this message, it is in the body of the description.

But, that doesn't explain why the link was garbled into what it was.
  • How does the text look when you view it in admin?
  • I decided to remove the info. But, for the record, I'm only in Admin. The URL I showed in my first post is how it appeared while editing the description.
  • Okay, I know acrylian thinks I don't know HTML but I am not crazy:

`taken from Freedom Trail website` is what I see.

IT IS NOT what I entered! I had a properly formed URL with open & close tag! EVERY URL is broken (I have them for where I quoted text or used an image with permission). Is it because I want the "target" included?

`taken from Freedom Trail website`is what I _HONESTLY_ entered! (I even went through all 70 images searching for where the URLs are and reformed what broke. Again, they broke.

Actually, on some, the closing was changed to !

    =======
This part is added after again correcting the URL. Going back to the thumbs, clicking it and viewing (Edit album) and seeing it broke.
  • I am sure I do not know what you are doing wrong. Certainly it is possible to place an URL into a description as is done on this image. http://testalbum.sbillard.org/Test Album/2007-04-29 191158_slb.JPG/view Click on the description--"link" and see.

This shows correctly in Admin and works as a link.

One tip - there has to be a space between ``

So, like this for your example:

    `
    taken from Freedom Trail website`
  • That's what my apology was for. With the over large type I use, I didn't see there was no space even with it staring at me. The URLs wrap quite a bit in the box so didn't catch.

Sorry, Macalter, I did not want to do you wrong, I was just judging from your posted examples.

Too bad that you do not have OS 10.4 (if I recall right), since Safari 2 and 3 lets you adjust the size of the description box - actually of all textfields - by default!
  • No offense taken, acrylian. I felt pretty dumb seeing what you obviously wanted to "kick" me for <LOL!>. I re-read your reply and in hindsight, laughed. Guess it's time for a trip to the optometrist!

Fonts on websites have always been an issue since we've started creating these delights. Big, small, how to determine font sizes to use has been a struggle. Yes, I'm on 10.3.9 and dreaming of a new Mac....

What's feeling strange too is if this site was done offline and uploaded, I could open in BBEdit or Dreamweaver and do a mass search & replace for the bad . It's remembering that its not only online but the pages aren't "static" so even if I downloaded the page, it would be like downloading the template only :) Now I have to remember where the links are! If I did them as planned they're all in italics so will find.

Because of the boo-boos with one of the builds, just wanted to be sure this wasn't one too <SMILE>. All better, until.......

Alright...:-) What Mac do you have? I don't know about 10.5, but 10.4 does work pretty well on slightly older Macs, if they have enough RAM (6 year old ones). No need always to buy a new one...:-)
  • "slightly older Macs, " that's me. G4/400 :-( memory <1 GB as it's very hard finding now and my friend said he'd give me his from his old Mac. But, think when his new G5 came, he hasn't turned off old one.

I do need new Mac as mine won't do Leopard (not Intel). Question i need to answer is whether to go tower or iMac line.

I'm "okay" living with the quirks provided I know that's what they are. And, you (developers) know because I can't be the only one on this setup. Otherwise, it could be a bug in the build and you'd not know :) And, not all quirks are due to my setup, the Save was changed, for example. (Aprreciate that)

Well, back to URL fixing so I can create my chocolate CSS.

Ok, G4/400 is a little too old...:-) 10.5, which is not intel only, but needs min. G4/867. Well, I will use my not-so-new G4/1.25GHz as long as he wants me to...:-) Here in Germany these Macs are awfully expensive...
  • Alas, only Intel Macs will run 10.6, so start saving your pennies. I feel kinship for those on PCs running Win98 <LAUGH>. No, wait, I don't. Any Mac OS is better!

Got my URLs fixed and now in Admin mode they show as hyperlinks. I assumed I had to be in "visitor" view (non-Admin) to see them so didn't get suspicious.

I fear that, too, but it could be that it will be the last PowerPC system...

    Exactly...:-)

    Enough off topic mac talk...:-)
  • Sorry to bump an old thread, but it seemed better than starting a new one. I can't get this to work in 1.2. It strips the tags off, leaving only the italics.

    Thanks
  • Italics in an anchor? Please post an example and be as descriptive as possible. I can't reproduce any problems with links in descriptions on my end.
  • I used the link posted by trisweb just to make sure I wasn't missing anything. Here it is: `taken from Freedom Trail website`. This only displays the text in italics, and there is no hyperlink. When I look at it in the admin panel, the `` tags are gone.
  • Are you entering this code as the title or as the description? Titles do not allow anchor tags in them and will be stripped out. Anchor tags work fine in descriptions however.
  • I am entering it in the description box. I am beginning to think there may be something wrong with my installation, as I cannot click on the tags tab either.
  • Yep, there's definitely something wrong with your installation. Did you upgrade a previous version of zenphoto, or is this a fresh install. Have you changed the permissions on any part of the filesystem? Some specifics in regard to your server setup would help in troubleshooting the problem.
  • I have reinstalled zenphoto, and now I can tag things, but still can't put links in image descriptions. My server setup is a basic account at hostgator, where I have a user with all permissions as the admin user on the zenphoto database. Is there a way to stop zenphoto from stripping HTML. I'm not opposed to editing the source, but I don't know where to look. Thanks for the help so far.
  • This has been fixed in build 2231.
