Ok - am I this dumb?

I've downloaded ZenPhoto to put onto my website (already have hosting & domain), and I am completely confused of how to get it to work.

The instructions located here: http://www.zenphoto.org/trac/wiki/ZenphotoInstall really didn't help me at all!

I created a "Gallery" folder in my domain name, and copied ALL of the files from the zenphoto folder on my desktop (even the readme, etc.)...

I don't have a mysql account (nor do I know what it is), and when I typed in the ..../zp-core/setup.php, it said not found.

If this is the easiest gallery program out there, I must be the thickest person out there trying to get it even to INSTALL!

Any help would be appreciated - I searched the forums, and the web, to see if there was a "Zenphoto for Dummies" guide, to no avail.

Thanks,
John

  • Zenphoto has a set of minimum requirements in order to run (http://www.zenphoto.org/2007/12/installation-and-upgrading/). Among these are a database (MySQL) and the PHP scripting language.

So, you will need to get MySQL setup on your site and will need to have PHP scripting enabled for things to work. If all of this sounds like jibberish to you you probably need to contact your ISP for help in getting them setup.
  • Thanks! Ok, I just set up a MySQL database, and apparently I'm good to go for PHP. I have to wait for the setup to be complete, and we'll go from there... hopefully!!

Thanks a lot - although it's all jibberish to me, I'm sure with this now, I'll be able go to... we'll see!!!!

    Best,
    john
  • Not sure if you're hosting with Dreamhost but when I set my MySQL database up, I then got an email telling me the configuration info I need (database name, username, and whatever else will be needed for Zenphoto. Usually Dreamhost takes about 10 minutes for the database to kick in but as soon as the email comes, it's good to go.

It's possible other hosts send the info too.
