Image always be at least certain width?

Is there any way to get an image to resize no matter what to a minimum of 595 pixels width on the default theme?

It looks like for vertical images, the resizing stops when the vertical is 595 pixels.....

I would like to make sure all images are 595 pixels width.

reason is that the description below the images start the text to the left of the edge of the photo, looks a bit silly ..... trying to make sure all text lie within the left/right margins of the photo above.
