When is photo info/metadata populated?

Hi,
In an effort of writing my Gallery2 to ZenPhoto migrator, I noticed that the ZP database is not populated till the photos are clicked. e.g: a photo is unsearchable till it is browsed at least once.

So, I copied the say lots of photos (nested in multiple folders) to ZP, can I assume that not all pictures can be searched till every single one of them are "clicked"?

Is there a tool to populate the metadata? I really need to have all the information in the db in order to properly migrate all the Gallery2 info over.

Thanks.

  • Go into the admin and click on 'Pre-Cache Images' in the dashboard or click edit and click the blue star to cache albums individually.
  • right. Thank you very much. But doing so crashed my browser. Doing that against individual albums also very slow. Any chance that I can run that from a command line?

    Thanks.
  • anyone?
  • There have been some scripts written to do this caching in the background. Don't rememeber exactly since normally precaching is not needed. Maybe a search on this site will turn something up.

Metadata will be populated as soon as the image is browsed. What is your migration tool doing? Does it create database entries for the images from the Gallery2 data?
  • see the migrator here. http://apps.ouwu.com/confluence/display/pb/Gallery2+to+ZenPhoto+Migrator
it copies titles, descriptions, and comments from Gallery2 to ZenPhoto. However if the metadata isn't there in zenphoto, the tool simply couldn't find records to update.
I'll do the search . thanks.
  • i used this but i couldnt get the comments to show up in zenphoto. are they supposed to show up there?
