IPTC data not imported/metadata not refreshed

Honored developers, and fellow ZP users,

Since I upgraded from 1.1.7 to 1.2, I am having troubles with IPTC (probably also with EXIF but I had it removed the files beforehand). I assume that there is some bug involved but before filing a bug report I wanted to check here that the error is not on my side.

I am running ZP 1.2 [2213] on a Debian Etch with PHP 5.2.0 and respective libraries for GD and stuff. Note that I did not test metadata with ZP 1.1.7 a lot but it definitely did work. E.g. the tags still show up.

After upgrading to ZP 1.2, I "uploaded" images by moving them to the albums. Everything is fine. No errors. The gallery is up. Just the IPTC data from the files does not show up as ZP metadata. When I go to Edit -> Albums and click "Refresh Metadata" no metadata is imported.

Is there anything I could check? Can someone else reproduce this?

TIA,
-- Andreas

P.S.: A sample file for testing is http://andreas.schamanek.net/galleries/iptctest.jpg

  • Well, some metadata is working, just not yours :(. I downloaded your image and indeed zenphoto does not fetch its metadata. But it does for other images. I will try to find out what is the problem.
  • I have found and fixed the problem. Seems that if you have no EXIF data IPTC data was ignored. The fix is in release [2261].

Unfortunately, I have to inform you that the way you have set your tags will be a problem. You have set them all in one keyword field separated by commas. Zenphoto will treat that as a single tag. If the image Metadata is correct and you use Photoshop 3.0 you can use Bridge to create yor tags. Create a keyword for each unique tag you wish.
  • Stephen, thanks a lot for this quick and thorough analysis, and for the fix of course. I am looking forward to trying the new build.

Don't worry about the keywords. I already knew about this. It's no big problem to change them (e.g. Debian provides exiv2 to extract and change EXIF/IPTC data).

    Thanks again.
